TuKod is all about WordPress MultiSite and Multi Networks.  Therefore, TuKod Recommendations is about plugins we use and we recommend.  These plugins are working for us in a MultiSite / Multi Networks installation.

We at ToKod are obviously able To Code our own plugins, however, before doing so, we search the plugins to find what we can really use.  When we find a really great plugin, we just use it as is!  The plugins we code are not available and therefore we coded them ourselves.

Each WordPress Plugin or Theme we code ourselves, is fundamentally different from any other we were able to find.  In the case we did find something similar, we made a real effort to adapt the plugin or theme.  We only decide to make a coding project when we have a real difference in the code we plan to use.  For example, our TuKod Multi Networks plugin is the only one that does not burden the server with any of the following, init action hooks, Ajax and/or JavaScript.  We felt these did not belong in a Multi Networks plugin so we rewrote the script to meet our own needs of speed and ease of use.

Plugins We Recommend

We recommend the following plugins that we ourselves have used in a MultiSite / Multi Networks installation.

TuKod Multi Networks

By TuKod Team

Multiple Domains, Multiple Networks, Multiple Levels of Site Admins, Network Admins, all in a Super Admin Management Interface for WP3.1+. For WordPress MultiSite (Sub-Domain) conversion to Multi-Domains and Multi-Networks with Multi-Sub-Domains and Multi-MultiSites! (Not for Sub-Directories).

TuKod MultiSite Site Names

By TuKod Team

Expands Site Name choices during the sign up process. These include removing username prohibitions, having all number Site Names (like “143”), and adding “internal” dashes “-” (hyphens) in all multisites signups. Sub-Directory sites may additionally use UpperCase (A-Z capital letters), plus “internal” dots “.” (periods), underscores “_”, and tildes “~”. “Internal” means it has a letter or number on both sides.

Math Comment Spam Protection

By Michael Woehrer

Asks the visitor making the comment to answer a simple math question. This is intended to prove that the visitor is a human being and not a spam robot. Example of such question: What is the sum of 2 and 9?

I love this anti-spam plugin.  It is light weight and very customizable.  The key to making this plugin work for you is to take some time to customize it!  Make the questions your own using words or other forms of text and change the variables to your own unique names.  These all throw the spam bots off.  No spam filter is 100%, but when you make it clear you will not accept spam, this is a great anti spam tool!

Simple Trackback Validation

By Michael Woehrer

Eliminates spam trackbacks by (1) checking if the IP address of the trackback sender is equal to the IP address of the webserver the trackback URL is referring to and (2) by retrieving the web page located at the URL used in the trackback and checking if the page contains a link to your blog.

This is a companion to the above, Math Comment Spam Protection, written by the same guy.  These two plugins represent the bulk of my anti-spam protection!  Sometimes simple is still best!

BWP Google XML Sitemaps

By Khang Minh

A more lightweight Google XML Sitemap WordPress plugin that generates a Sitemap index rather than a single sitemap. Despite its simplicity, it is still very powerful and has plenty of options to choose.

Exec-PHP

By Sören Weber

Executes <?php ?> code in your posts, pages and text widgets.

Page Links To

By Mark Jaquith

Allows you to point WordPress pages or posts to a URL of your choosing. Good for setting up navigational links to non-WP sections of your site or to off-site resources.

Network Switch Button

By Ve Bailovity

Add a Network Admin / Site Admin button to your WordPress Multisite Dashboard

Unconfirmed

By Boone B Gorges

Allows admins on a WordPress Multisite network to manage unactivated users, by either activating them manually or resending the activation email.

If you allow Registrations via wp-signup.php you will want to add this to your must have list!

Invite Anyone

(BuddyPress Only)

By Boone B Gorges

The ability to invite members to the site by email. The plugin creates a tab on each member’s Profile page called “Send Invites”, which contains a form where users can invite outsiders to join the site. There is a field for a custom message.

This is really for BuddyPress, but I thought I would throw it in here anyway as I am about to start a BuddyPress site!
